Written Component PCE - Remote Proctoring (Pros/Cons)
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, CAPR have provided an alternate way to complete the written exam remotely. We have been getting questions on whether you should choose this route or complete the exam at a physical location.
We will outline a few PROS and CONS of remote proctoring of the Written PCE.
PROS
Limit your risk of getting COVID-19
Limiting your exposure to different environments will limit your risk of getting COVID-19. For the health and safety of your well-being, this should be a point to consider especially if you have vulnerable people living in your household.
2. More comfortable in your own environment
This is a huge point to consider. Being able to do the exam in your own environment may reduce the stress related to being in an exam room. This is especially true if you are unfamiliar with the area of the testing center. Not having to stress about the things outside of the exam itself is a huge benefit - this includes traffic, parking, not knowing the exact location and waiting with nervous candidates outside of the testing center.
3. Limiting your distractions
This can work towards or against you (we will explain in the cons). Having the ability to complete the exam at home may reduce small distractions you may encounter at the exam sites. For example, having the examiners walking around, other candidates fidgeting and being unaware of the setup/environment.
CONS
Being TOO comfortable.
Some of you perform better under a bit of pressure and being in the testing center may actually increase your adrenaline rush. It may not feel as though you are attempting a real exam when you are in the comfort of your own home.
2. Distractions at home.
Some of you may have kids/roommates or other potential distractions at home. This will greatly affect your performance if you are not focused on the exam. We suggest having a plan where you will be left alone if possible during this time to avoid potential distractions.
